Configure VPN using Outline

Welcome $user_name!

This article describes a step-by-step guide to setting up your own VPN using our "Optimized Virtual Servers" service.

Steps you need to take:

1. Install/Reinstall Debian 10 or Ubuntu 20.04 on your OVS, you can find how to do it in our knowledge base.

Just type "How to reinstall OS on my virtual server?".

2. Download and Install "Outline VPN" (Manager and Client).

3. SSH into your server and run the following command:

4. Launch "Outline Manager" and follow the steps marked in red in the photo below, you should paste generated config-string to "Outline Manager":

5. Now we need to copy the "config-string" from the "Outline Manager" and paste it into the "Outline Client".

Click on the icon marked in the photo below. You will be prompted to connect your current device or another one, choose one of this and press "Copy".

After you have copied the configuration, run the "Outline Client" and paste it in.

Note:

  • Configuration-string looks like:

           "ss://Y2hhY2hhMjAtaWV0Zi1wb2x5MTMwNTpuT3JzWGI0ZXdwamk@5.101.44.186:40041/?outline=1"

  •  To connect multiple devices to one VPN-server you need to create an additional key by clicking on "Add new key".

After that you can share this key by link to your seccond device by clicking "Share" sign (open this link on seccond device to get the configurations for your VPN).

(Warning: Your other device must have the "Outline Client" installed)

6. Now you can be satisfied with safe access to the Internet.

You can check your security using any service that collects data about your IP (ex. thesafety.us).
